A native to Cleveland, OH, Garrett moved to Utah in the spring of 2009 to pursue his passion for photography and expand upon his education. After graduating from the Art Institute of Salt Lake City with his Bachelor of Science in Digital Photography, Garrett focused on a full-time photography career. Though he works in multiple areas of the photography industry, his true passion has always been photographing Nature. Garrett has spent thousands of hours exploring portrait rich locations such as the Great Salt Lake, Wasatch Mountain Range, and Southern Utah while working to hone and craft his personal style and expression. In his landscape work each image dutifully incorporates the subjects ambiguity, from color to light, from mood to emotion.
Garrett aims to grab one’s attention with his work, and to instill in his viewers the same sense of admiration for the beauty of nature he experiences.
“Isolated in a natural scene is where I feel most comfortable. Where my creative vision feels strongest. Landscape photography is my greatest passion. Something about standing before a wide-open vista, golden hour, the sky is painted with clouds. As the sun begins it’s rise or decent the colors begin their display. Vivid, bold, saturated colors. With other forms of photography I feel I’m creating images, however, with landscape photography I feel I’m finding them. Being out exploring the parts of our planet man has yet to destroy. Searching for new things, new places. For me, there is nothing more exciting and mysterious than the art of landscape photography. It’s adventurous and unpredictable. My goal with this body of work is to share the beauty of our planet, and hopefully my work may help lead to some conservation of such natural places.”
